Nissan Chosen as the Official New York Taxicab

For years, New Yorkers have hailed the classic Crown Vic to take them to the train station, out to dinner, for a night on Broadway, or maybe just home from the airport. They're a familiar sight on the streets of New York, but pretty soon, they'll be phased out in favor of some new and environmentally-friendly features.
That's right, pretty soon, New York City commuters will hop into the back seat of cars like the Nissan Altima Hybrid and Nissan NV200 to get where they need to go.
This all started way back in 2007, when city officials gathered a group of stakeholders in the taxicab industry to cultivate a list of needs for the next official cab of New York City. Many automakers submitted ideas for the official city taxi, and then they took their time in choosing the best of the best. In 2011 (that's right, four years later), the Nissan NV200 was announced as the car of choice. It will be the iconic New York City taxicab starting in 2013, and for the next ten years (at least).
What made the city choose Nissan as the exclusive New York Taxi? According to Joe Castelli, VP, Nissan Fleet & Commercial Vehicles, "Nissan's NV200 Taxi will be the first taxi in the world to offer new and iconic features developed for, and with, New Yorkers." He went on to say that at The Taxi of Tomorrow Design Expo, New Yorkers will get "a first look at these one-of-a-kind amenities, which include increased legroom, plenty of interior lighting, and materials that reduce odors and germs while supporting sustainability."1
This new taxi is just one example of Nissan's continuing commitment to "developing exciting and innovative products for all."2 So, while you might not see this new cab roaming the streets of downtown Tucson, Thoroughbred Nissan invites you to come and visit us at 5163 E 22nd Street Tucson, AZ 85711 to see all of the vehicles featured in the holistically-designed new Nissan lineup.
