This all started way back in 2007, when city officials gathered a group of stakeholders in the taxicab industry to cultivate a list of needs for the next official cab of New York City. Many automakers submitted ideas for the official city taxi, and then they took their time in choosing the best of the best. In 2011 (that's right, four years later), the Nissan NV200 was announced as the car of choice. It will be the iconic New York City taxicab starting in 2013, and for the next ten years (at least).

What made the city choose Nissan as the exclusive New York Taxi? According to Joe Castelli, VP, Nissan Fleet & Commercial Vehicles, "Nissan's NV200 Taxi will be the first taxi in the world to offer new and iconic features developed for, and with, New Yorkers." He went on to say that at The Taxi of Tomorrow Design Expo, New Yorkers will get "a first look at these one-of-a-kind amenities, which include increased legroom, plenty of interior lighting, and materials that reduce odors and germs while supporting sustainability."¹
